Elements such as concrete, wood, stone, glass and metal allow for endless material combinations. A range of materials can be used in both interior and exterior designs to enhance the aesthetic and/or structural characteristics. Whether you’re working with a space in a new build or the renovation of an existing space, the material’s colour, feel, texture and finish should all be taken into consideration.
To give you inspiration for your next build or renovation, we’ve compiled some of our favourite concrete combinations.
Concrete & Wood
Concrete and wood is one of the highest-ranking combinations on our list. When paired together they create a beautiful modern feel. See for yourself.

The raw exposed concrete in the image above creates a cooler toned monolithic statement. The concrete is softened by the warmth emanating from the tones in the wooden flooring. The contrast of colours and finishes brings a soft but modern feeling to the space.

The bathroom in the above image is another example of a creative concrete and timber combination. By slightly altering the material’s colours, tones and textures, a completely different look and feel is achieved. The textured concrete panels add to the warmth created by the vibrant orange/red tones in the timber boards.
Concrete & Concrete
Concrete and concrete is undoubtedly one of our favourite material combinations. The pairing of concrete with concrete may initially seem intimidating, but don’t be afraid to experiment with the texture, colours and finishes as this combination can create a very unique look.

Another great example of this duo is mixing up concrete and terrazzo. The addition of stone, glass or aggregate in concrete provides visual variations in texture. This unique contrast between the rough stones and smooth polished concrete is shown in the image above and isn’t it stunning.
Other examples of pairing concrete with concrete include;
- Concrete stairwell and flooring
- Splashbacks and vanities
- Kitchen countertops and splashbacks
- Polished concrete and terrazzo
Concrete & Tiles

Another startling combination is concrete and tiles. Altering the shape, size and colour of the tiles gives you flexibility in creating the look and feel you’re after. The kitchen above is a subtle take on modern design. White tiles paired with polished light grey concrete is a simple and easy way to upgrade any kitchen.
Concrete & Brick

Concrete and brick is a material combination which creates more of a warm modern aesthetic. When paired together these two materials are a beautiful design statement. The rough-cut stones left exposed reveal a textured surface with various levels of shadow and depth. In contrast the smooth, polished concrete finish creates a modern take on a rustic kitchen and dining area, as seen in this image.
Concrete & Glass
Glass and concrete are another pair perfect for bathrooms, kitchens and living areas. From windows to screens, the addition of glass can accentuate the clean, modern look of concrete.
