Why concrete is a great choice for both interior and exterior spaces

Why concrete is a great choice for both interior and exterior spaces

We are often asked – 'is concrete an indoor or outdoor material?' The answer is, both!

The high quality of Blend Concrete Design’s concrete and sealants make our pieces ideal for a large variety of interior spaces. This includes frequently used surfaces such as:

  • Kitchen benchtops
  • Bathroom vanities
  • Bathroom basins

However, the durable qualities of concrete also make it suitable for pieces exposed to the elements such as:

  • Exterior wall panels
  • BBQ benches
  • Outdoor seating

Whether you’re looking to bring a more modern feel to an indoor area or spice up your outdoor spaces, you are in the right place! Our design team has put together some ideas to help you incorporate concrete into your interior and exterior spaces.

INDOOR SPACES

At Blend Concrete Design, we love finding new and exciting ways to incorporate concrete into the home. Whether you are looking for a concrete piece that works cohesively with your existing interior aesthetic or a unique show-stopping masterpiece, the versatility and limitless design potential of concrete means we can help you achieve your vision.

Concrete in the Kitchen

Concrete is naturally a porous material, but the application of our sealers ensures that it’s a surface that is easy to clean and food safe, making it perfect for kitchen counters. Our sealants are high-quality and can create a gloss or matte finish.

These sealers protect the concrete from:

  • Bacteria
  • Food
  • Heat
  • Water damage

This non-toxic coating also increases the longevity of a concrete surface, whilst minimising upkeep.

Kitchen Benchtops

A stylish concrete benchtop is the perfect way to add a modern touch to any kitchen. Our stunning kitchen benchtops are available in a full range of colours, making it easy to find a colour which complements your cabinetry and décor. If you are wanting to add a little more flare, why not incorporate under counter lighting?

Kitchen Island Counters

If you are looking for an eye-catching talking piece to elevate your kitchen, our stunning concrete island counters are sure to do the trick. A bespoke concrete kitchen island counter is not only effortlessly chic but also incredibly practical. The custom nature of our designs means we can integrate bar stool seating and built-in cabinetry to ensure that your island counter meets all your kitchen needs.

Concrete in the Bathroom

Looking to bring a contemporary feel to your bathroom? Our concrete basins, vanity tops and splashbacks create a sleek and stylish aesthetic.

The unique finish and texture of concrete complements a large variety of tapware styles and finishes. Whether you love matte black tapware or shiny brushed brass, we can help you create your ideal colour palette. Not only can our concrete add a pop of colour, our sealers make our pieces easy to clean and maintain.

GRC and Terrazzo

Our custom vanity tops and splashbacks are available in both GRC and terrazzo. Terrazzo is a great way to bring a little fun and movement into a space. The stunning geometric shapes create a fresh and chic finish. Create your own custom mix and let your imagination run wild with the various colours and stone sizes and shapes.

Concrete Panels

We recommend using concrete panels to bring texture and uniqueness to a space. Many of our clients love the industrial look of the ferrules embossed into our panels. However, if you are looking for a more minimal or textured approach our design team can work with you to create a unique design.

OUTDOOR SPACES

Now that we’ve covered a few of the many ways to incorporate concrete into your interior spaces, let’s explore some of the possible ways concrete can enhance your outdoor living spaces.

In Australia, we love nothing more than enjoying the great outdoors. But as we have learnt in the last year, sometimes it’s important to bring the great outdoors a little closer to home. At Blend Concrete Design we love transforming outdoor spaces to create an “at home slice of paradise”.

The sealant we apply to our concrete pieces provide it with the physical features needed to withstand outdoor climatic conditions, including resistance to many weather conditions such as:

  • Erosion
  • Rotting
  • Rusting
  • Abrasions

This ensures that our clients get the most use with minimal maintenance. So, whether it is by the pool, lawn or the deck, our concrete pieces are sure to be a great match for your exterior space.

Barbeques

If you are looking to elevate your outdoor entertainment area, look no further than a custom concrete barbeque benchtop. Our sleek and easy to clean benchtops are perfect for entertaining guests or feeding the family.

Seating

We love creating stylish and practical outdoor seating. Choose the colour, finishes, textures and design of your concrete to add unique character to the overall look and feel of your space. Whether you are by the pool side soaking up some rays (with sunscreen on of course) or waiting for the sausages on the barbeque to finish cooking, our concrete pieces provide the seating solution you need.

Wall Panels

Our concrete panels are also ideal for exterior use. The unique texture and finish of concrete perfectly complement a variety of materials from timber to glass. Not only do our panels look great, our high-quality sealers help to protect your concrete from harsh exterior environments.
