Upon entering this tranquil space of warmth and character, the infinity-edge magnesium pool greets you, offering panoramic views of the Brisbane city skyline. Emilia Kosiek, Interior Designer at Pellicano, commented on the Hillyard rooftop project, stating that “every corner of the space is thoughtfully designed with high-end amenities, including a spa, cold plunge, infrared sauna, steam room, massage room, yoga lawn, and BBQ/dining areas. In this space, wellness and sophistication seamlessly converge, fostering a balanced lifestyle and cultivating a strong sense of community.
Blend Concrete Design played a key role in bringing cohesion and character to Hillyard House’s rooftop, creating custom concrete pieces that enhance both functionality and aesthetic unity. Each piece, thoughtfully designed to harmonise with the monochromatic terracotta palette, reinforces the space’s holistic focus on community and wellness through connection. Crafted in the rich, earthy tone "Dingo," Blend’s concrete tables and BBQ benchtop provide an inviting setting where residents can experience the perfect harmony of luxury and togetherness.
Three uniquely shaped concrete tables, developed in close collaboration with high-end furniture designer Furn-Niche, serve as focal points across the rooftop. Thanks to Blend’s in-house industrial design and mould making capabilities, they worked together with Furn-Niche from initial concept through to production, resulting in tables that fit perfectly within their designated areas. These tables are both functional and inviting, encouraging guests to gather, rest, and connect. Their thoughtfully chosen shapes allow them to subtly anchor each space without overpowering the overall aesthetic, creating a sense of flow that enriches the rooftop's atmosphere.
In any gathering space, table design is crucial—it often serves as the central anchor that defines the room's flow and invites social interaction. The three concrete dining tables on the rooftop achieve this balance effortlessly. Acting as understated yet striking centrepieces, they guide the arrangement of surrounding furniture, creating harmonious spaces where form and function merge seamlessly.
Consistency in material was key to achieving a cohesive design on the rooftop, and Blend’s versatile concrete was a fitting choice. In collaboration with South City Construct, Blend also crafted a 6.5-metre concrete benchtop with integrated BBQs and a sink for the outdoor kitchen, creating an elevated space for residents to host and entertain family and friends.
While colour and form are thoughtfully employed to elevate the design of this space, it’s texture that truly takes centre stage. From the physically tactile texture qualities of cacti, curved rendered walls, and tiling to the visually tactility of retro striped upholstery, every element contributes a unique layer of texture. Blend’s concrete pieces stand out as one-of-a-kind, celebrating the natural, organic variations in the material. The cylindrical legs of each concrete table reveal beautifully varied air pockets, adding an authentic touch, while the tabletops and BBQ benchtop are meticulously smooth and refined. This rigorous finishing process, along with the use of a high-quality sealant, not only ensures durability and functionality but also creates a velvety, stain-resistant surface that is inviting to the touch.
